Al-Adwaa supports the Food Bank’s “Build a tomorrow” initiative to feed school and daycare children
Al-Adwaa, which is affiliated with the publishing house Nahdet Misr, signed a cooperation protocol with the Egyptian Food Bank to carry out some socially beneficial activities and provide humanitarian aid, especially food, for school children and nurseries, according to a database and studies owned by the Egyptian food banks. research in this field.
In light of this collaboration, Al-Adwaa will contribute to the preparation and provision of healthy and hot meals for students in some towns and villages in the provinces of Upper Egypt, namely: Assiut – Sohag – Minya, with 125,000 hot and healthy meals in nine schools in three governorates during academic year 2022 – 2023. As part of the initiative “Building a future for children’s nutrition in kindergartens and schools” adopted by the “Egyptian Food Bank”, as part of the general strategy of the food bank to provide healthy food for target groups of beneficiaries, in accordance with the vision of the state 2030 and the interest in proper nutrition and public health, and in accordance with the early detection of anemia diseases Obesity and stunted growth, because research and statistics have shown that malnutrition is the cause of two-thirds of child deaths, and Egypt is among the 36 countries where it is concentrated 90% of the burden of global malnutrition. Despite a significant improvement in stunting rates according to the Egyptian Family Health Survey 2021, published by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics, stunting rates decreased among children under five, reaching 13% in 2021 compared to 21% in 2014, in addition to reducing the percentage of emaciation from 8% in 2014 to 3% in 2021, however, indicators of anemia rate reached 43% in 2021, compared to 27.2% in 2014, which calls for rapid intervention to reduce this phenomenon.
In this context, Dalia Ibrahim, president of the Board of Directors of “Nahdet Misr Publishing”, stated that the signing of the protocol with the “Egyptian Food Bank” comes as participation in achieving one of the most important goals of sustainable development, which are in line with the goal and vision of “Nahdet Misr”. and “Al-Adwaa” according to the importance of human building. We believe that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body, and that a healthy balanced diet is the basis for ensuring educational achievement and achieving the highest level of understanding and comprehension. Therefore, our desire to cooperate with the “Egyptian Food Bank” providing balanced food assistance to the most needy children and reaching those who qualify in all provinces of Egypt.
Mohsen Sarhan, executive director of the “Egyptian Food Bank”, said that the cooperation protocol comes within the framework of the bank’s activities related to providing healthy food for children in schools, in an effort to preserve the general health of students, in accordance with the guidelines of the Egyptian state and its presidential initiatives to combat diseases resulting from malnutrition. Reducing stunting, explaining that the fight against malnutrition is part of the bank’s plans through the “Burn Bakra Program” to feed children in nurseries and schools, to solve problems related to stunting, exhaustion, anemia, poor mental development, weak physical structure and inability to engage in physical activities.
Sarhan added that kindergarten and elementary school students from poor families are most vulnerable to malnutrition problems due to lack of resources. Therefore, since 2009, the “Egyptian Food Bank” has started the fight against child malnutrition through primary schools by providing a daily healthy meal for children, and this has been extended to nursery children in 2021, calling for cooperation with the company “Al-Adwaa” , which guarantees the provision of a warm daily meal integrated with essential nutrients that work to combat malnutrition and support student health. improves his mental and physical abilities, through the school kitchens of the Egyptian Food Bank, while working on educating parents and students about the importance of proper healthy nutrition and its impact on their growth and concentration.
